On this Tracking & Trapping Course you will be taught the techniques on how to track and and trap food, with hand made traps and snares. Since the beginning of time mankind has hunted and gathered in order to survive. They would have used all parts of the animal and nothing would have gone to waste. Clothing would have been made from the fur to stay warm, the meat, sinews and bone tools would have been used as a valuable resource.
You will be taught how to make observations on the movement and habitats of certain animals. All animals have different habits so to hunt them requires different methods such as stalking an animal, trackers use the cover of bushes, going down on their hands and knees where necessary. In long grass they go down on their stomachs pulling themselves forward with their elbows. Different animals or birds need to be sometimes approached in different ways, due to the animals characteristics.
The most important thing is not to attract attention by sudden movements. Trackers take their time, moving slowly when the animal is not looking. Keeping still when the animal is looking in their direction. When stalking an animal, trackers must also be careful not to disturb other animals. A disturbed animal will give its alarm signal.Thereby alerting all animals in the vicinity, including the animal being tracked down. All the trapping techniques taught on the course are for demonstration purposes only as in certain country’s have different rules regarding trapping or hunting wild animals. So food will be provided and cooked on site, moose and reindeer meat can be provided depending on course you choose.
